  • John’s Computers hate me

Earlier, for the life of me, I could not get a computer to tell me that it had memory problems. Normally you’d think “Memory problems! I don’t want those”, but when some guy who is normally right about these kind of things tells you that he found these problems, sometimes you double check.

He tells me that his machine is corrupting his World of Warcrack installation and randomly crashes and that he had memtested in the past and found problems, what would you do.

I did, in several different combinations about 5 half hour long thorough memory tests on this machines RAM, well anyway the RAM was good, no problems there. I also scanned the hard drives, checked the power supply by hand with a multi meter, and more and more and more…  (in the order that makes sense to do these of course always PSU first)

Anyway it turns out he had a bad USB controller on his motherboard that was damaged because the front panel USB header was installed backwards too long. Sad face time :(

So he let me take some of his parts and fed me Pizza, thanks John. Happy face time :)
